The Center for the Visually Impaired sponsors self-help groups called PALS (People Adjusting to Limited Sight).  PALS provides the visually impaired person and their families an opportunity to get together for social, educational, and recreational purposes.

Brevard PALS (People Adjusting to Limited Sight) is a social group for persons who are blind or who are currently losing their sight due to macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts and other eye conditions that can lead to severe sight loss.

The group currently meets by phone every month and welcomes speakers who discuss topics such as gardening with low vision, iPhone versus android: which is easier to use and tools for diabetics that can help with monitoring their blood sugars, such as Dexcom and El Libre.  Members of the Brevard group are now planning to schedule events where they can meet face to face, such as lunches, hiking trips and museum visits. Any person living in Brevard County who is losing their vision or is legally blind is invited to join the group and help us plan activities and speakers for upcoming meetings.
