The Center for the Visually Impaired sponsors self-help groups called PALS (Persons Adjusting to Limited Sight) in four counties. PALS provides the visually impaired person and their families an opportunity to get together for social, educational and recreational purposes on a monthly basis. Friends of the Center for the Visually Impaired is CVI's own main support group whose purpose is to assist the agency with community outreach, financial and in-kind contributions, provide volunteer services and serve as an advisory council for the agency programs. The Friends group meets bi-monthly for a formal luncheon program with a speaker at the Palmetto Club in Daytona Beach. “The Lunch and Learn” Job Club has a goal of providing support, information and guidance to blind and low vision job seekers who are unemployed or underemployed and seeking to change jobs.
Hospitality Employ partners with the Volusia County Lodging and Hospitality Association to help fill positions in the local hospitality industry by providing training to low vision and blind persons who are customer service oriented and want to work in a setting where customer service skills are the key. Clients receive 48 hours of classroom instruction and 100 hours in a work experience using the skills they have learned. The next class will convene on 10/07/19.
